Devlog on Simon Says Kick the Bucket
Mar 9 - v.0.1 - Started on a game similar to "The Password Game" except slightly comedic and edgy. Got the extra edgy menu screen done.
Mar 13 - v.0.2 - Started incorporating a custom font and text engine for cutscenes.
Mar 14 - v.0.3 - Finished the first auto-playing monologue
Mar 16 - v.0.4 - Cranked out all the first cutscene sprites, dialogue, facial expressions, and text into the game. Still haven't even done any actual game coding yet, which is scaring me, since the competition due date is by April 4th/5th depending on time zones.
Mar 18 - v.0.5 - Rewrote some code to keep the project optimized and avoid lag. Added an ambient background music to the menu screen and put together some sound effects for the dialogue. Added a way to skip the first cutscene, though still buggy.
Mar 20 - v.0.6 - Finished the instructions included in the game and got the text to shake during specific texts. Made sure nothing lagged and made some bug fixes.
Mar 21 - v.0.7 - Finally added some actual gameplay. Added a bunch of rules.
Mar 24 - v.0.8 - BIG UPDATE: Wrote all the (hundreds of lines of) code to force the player to follow the rules or else the game stops. Line count: 2428.
Mar 25 - v.0.9 - Got the player to die if failing to follow rules. Unfortunately, it's not very well play-tested and has too many bugs. I tried to fix as many bugs as possible, but even then, it's too much. The deadline for the contest is approaching, but I'm not fully finished yet!
Mar 27 - v.1.0 - Fixed more bugs and did some work on the ending. Every once in a while I'd find a bug. I can't really do anything else about it, so I think I'm going to stop for now. Feel free to tell me any bugs you come across, as long as you're nice about it. Line count: 3240.
Mar 29 - v.1.1 - Changed it so that when you die, you respawn instead of having to click the green flag again and sitting through all of the dialogue/monologues again. Added a (slightly disturbing) jumpscare sound effect and a delay between death and revival. Creates some new bugs. Tried to reverb the ending music to sync with the monologue.
July 4 - v.1.2 - After having the project being taken down by a different website's moderators, SIMON'S BACK!
