Devlog on HeartBeaten

Jan 15 - Started working on my second original rhythm game in the 500 Follower Anything contest. Decided on the three levels to use: Alone by Marshmello, Earthquake by Teminite, and Heracles by Yooh. The game is planned to have the player orbit around an orb dodging certain bullets.

Jan 16 - Started a simple menu screen with easing and glow, plus direction sensing for level selection. Added WASD controls with the arrow keys.

Jan 17 - Got the songs to play while hovering towards one of the levels. Still buggy, couldn't get songs to loop right.

Jan 19 - Managed to fix previous bugs, made a cool thumbnail, exaggerated the easing a bit more, and got the buttons and song to fade out with a descending and reverb-filled effect.

Jan 20 - WOOHOO! Figured out how to sync the bars with the music. All that's left is the hard work of charting everything! I got the bars in Alone fully synced

Jan 21 - Got specific mapping and restart effects flowing...

Jan 22 - Added the adrenaline mechanic that speeds you up the more beats there are. I'm finally starting to bring the "HeartBeat" into "HeartBeaten"!

Feb 4 - BIG UPDATE: numbered levels, changed the colors of the pulse and beats to go accordingly with the level, fixed a bug where the adrenaline speed would increase exponentially, finished mapping and charting Earthquake and Heracles, got the center orb to pulse for a moment when a beat lands, buffed Earthquake since it was even easier than Alone, and other small bug changes to make the game better! Officially finished(thought not completely done with, for I might add more features, levels, or bugfixes :) ). Surprisingly only 600 lines to code this.

Feb 5 - Made the pulses more exaggerated and remapped/recharted Earthquake, since I made it too hard. Added a pulsing background and updated the thumbnail to go accordingly with the stage. Lag is becoming a serious issue for Hercules.

Mar 5 - Contest results out. 14th place out of 500+ entries. Pretty good!

Mar 6 - I'm letting this stay as this is for a while. Preserve the beauty. For now, I'll start working on HeartBeaten 2!

July 4 - Uploaded this game onto itch.io!
